It’s Friday, time for the Friday Roundup of News and Thoughts and Such

Thoughts
I think I might’ve used this joke once but it was long enough ago that I’m not checking. You can check if you want to. You can leave your friends behind.
This may or may not get published on Friday. I already told Dane it won’t be ready until Saturday but I’m sitting here bored and have had a brief burst of creative energy. I’ve got wiggle room.
Hey, I finally saw Nope a couple days ago. I liked it a lot. Probably my least favorite Jordan Peele movie but that’s still a pretty high bar. I’d go *** ½ out of 5.
Bryan “Dexter” Holland, the guy who wrote “Pretty Fly (For a White Guy)” has a PhD in Molecular Biology.
Have you guys put in your submissions for the channel.WAV “Song of the Summer”? If you haven’t, you really should. I’ve personally pledged to stream the winning song 229 times on Spotify, netting the artist a cool $1.00, American. Support your favorite artist and submit your pick.
As an aside, per Google, the most played song on Spotify is Ed Sheeran’s “No Scrubs” “Shape of You” with 3.2 billion streams. That means that song has pulled in somewhere in the neighborhood of $13,973,799.13. That is more money than I will make in my life. In protest, I’m not covering any lawsuits this week, even though they’re most of my content.
News
1. Taylor Swift has never heard of 3LW:
Which means that she has never heard the 3LW/Lil Romeo/Nick Cannon cover of “Parents Just Don’t Understand” from the soundtrack of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius. Actually, surely she’s heard “Baby I’ma Do Right”, right? Did she just not watch Nickelodeon in 2002? Probably a good thing in light of recent revelations, but this is a music blog. (this revelation also came out in a lawsuit).
2. Weezer cancels residency:
Perhaps frustrated by how many times I’ve used the word residency recently, the band canceled its slate of Broadway performances, citing “low ticket sales” and “high expenses”. This is actually basic economics. Had there been “high ticket sales” and “low expenses,” it can be presumed the residency would be going on as scheduled. Hard-hitting analysis. Just the facts. The Friday Roundup.
3. A$AP Rocky shooting update:
As we probably covered previously, (again, not going back to look), A$AP Rocky was arrested in April for a shooting which occurred in November. Now, A$AP Mob member A$AP Relli has come forward to allege having been the shooting’s victim. Relli announced his intention to sue (not a lawsuit, hasn’t been filed.) Rocky, stating that multiple shots were fired “without provocation.”
4. Zack De La Rocha broke his leg:
Rage Against the Machine canceled the European… leg… of their tour as a result of the injury.
5. David Ellefson talked some shit about Megadeth:
I didn’t actually read much about this other than that he got fired last year. What I want to talk about instead is the time that Dave Mustaine played himself in an episode of Duck Dodgers, a show I am CONFIDENT that you had forgotten about until this exact second. The year was 2005. Megadeth had reunited the year prior after a 2-year breakup, and Dave Mustaine appeared in an episode of a kids’ show entitled “In Space, No One Can Hear You Rock.” This is “Why does this exist”-worthy and I may do a full recap and review. In the meantime, for your reading pleasure, find the Looney Tunes wiki entry for Dave Mustaine, which describes him as an “ally of Daffy Duck.”

What’s channel.WAV listening to this week?
Ritter: Mid-August is here which means for the Ritter household, Summer is just about over as we head back to teach school. I love making playlists and every year I throw a hodgepodge of songs together that I dub "Summer jams." Perfectly appropriate since you NEED TO CAST YOUR NOMINATION FOR SONG OF THE SUMMER. Here's the playlist, hit shuffle and go enjoy the ends of Summer for me and my wife.
Slone: I want to take the opportunity to give a ton of praise to Lamont Dozier, who died this week at the age of 81. Dozier, as one third of the powerhouse songwriting team Holland-Dozier-Hollad (along with brothers Eddie and Brian Holland (Brandon’s Note: this gentleman is not to be confused with the aforementioned Mr. Holland, and does not, to my knowledge, have a PhD in Molecular Biology)). The team wrote roughly a billion classics, including 25 Number 1 singles like “Stop! In the Name of Love,” “Baby Love,” and “How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You).” I’m sure there’s plenty of playlists for you to check out.
I’d also like to pay tribute to the great Olivia Newton-John, who died at age 73. Grease is one of those weird things that goes in and out of style from what I can tell, but it is objectively a cultural phenomenon and the soundtrack remains one of the best-selling albums of all time. “Physical” stayed at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 for 10 straight weeks, which is the longest tenure at Number 1 for any song of the 1980s.
Botts: This is what HAIM does to me.
Theatrical Banger: "My Shiny Teeth n Me" from The Fairly Odd Parents
If you read our most recent article you’ll understand why this is the banger
Editor's note: we got one (1) comment on our Staff Inspection, and here is one (1) Aaron teeth pic to uphold our end of the deal:
