Thoughts

I was supposed to go to a My Morning Jacket concert over the weekend and ended up not going because I felt v not well. I am rather disappointed, largely because I spent good money on that ticket. If anyone wants to Venmo me $82, I’ll give you some coupons or something idk.

And now, in commemoration of the concert I did not go to at Yum!, a tale about the last time I went to that venue. The year was 2019, the acts were Weezer and the Pixies. Good show. But that’s not really what I want to talk about, is it? No, what I want to tell you about is the greatest moment of my life.

You see, before the show started, the venue was piping in music over the speakers, as is a common occurrence at such concerts. “Every Rose Has Its Thorn” was playing. Seated behind us was a couple, engaged in a spirited debate. Just who originally performed this song? The woman in the couple insisted it was Bon Jovi. The man knew it was not Bon Jovi, but didn’t know who it was.

I sat there, stewing. “I wish I could tell them it’s Poison,” I thought to myself, assuming that my butting in could save the couple’s relationship. Alas, my social anxiety got the better of me, and I could not insert myself into their conversation which had nothing to do with me. Until…

I felt a tap on my shoulder. I turned around. “Hey, brother,” the man said. “Who sings this song?”

“Poison,” I immediately replied, prolly looking suave as fuck.

The man seemed satisfied. The woman conceded her loss in the argument. My calm, neutral adjudication of the matter brought the argument to a close. And that’s the story of how I saved the relationship of some strangers.

News

1. Taylor Swift makes history:

By becoming the only artist in history to hold all 10 spots in the Billboard top 10 simultaneously. I do not wish to lessen anyone’s accomplishments but I do feel compelled to point out that this feat would have literally been impossible in the pre-streaming era, unless an artist released 10 simultaneous singles. I get really defensive when publications feel the need to compare the modern landscape with the landscape of 40 or 50 years ago.

2. Rick Ross was on Dynamite:

In this week’s wrestling report, Wingstop entrepreneur Rick Ross appeared on Dynamite to accuse Keith Lee of making ACCUSATIONS against our guy Swerve Strickland. This is how I learned Rick Ross is a better promo than half of the active roster. Dynamite is coming to Lexington in January and you best believe my ass is gonna be there. Maybe some random rappers will show up or some shit idk. Seems to be the hot new trend.

3. Johnny Depp is appearing in Rihanna’s fashion show:

Come on, man. We can all do better than this.

4. It’s apparently a new trend for people to complain about their weddings overlapping with Taylor Swift tour dates or some shit.

Idk I didn’t read the article but it annoyed me.

Such

What’s channel.WAV listening to this week?

Slone: After the runaway success of last week’s Perry Farrell piece, I am introducing a new feature called “Ghoulish Perry Farrel Photo of the Week” wherein I post photographic evidence of Perry Farrell being a ghoul.

Pictured: Perry Farrell drinking what I presume to be blood.

Anyway, what am I listening to this week? What very few people know or expect about me is that my number 1 favorite song of all time is “1979” by The Smashing Pumpkins, a band who knows all about ghoulish 90s alt rock singers, being that Billy Corgan is basically Gru from Despicable Me.

Tell me this wasn’t intentional and I’ll call you a liar.

Ritter: I've had the new SZA song on repeat this past week -- dear god it's good. Since we're near the end of the year and I wanna highlight my fave Christmas songs next month, I'm gonna take this month to reflect on some of my favorite songs of this year. This week, a song that made me cry a lot, and one that I think could be a game-changer for hip-hop.

Botts:Song for a Girl

Blurb: Which member of HAIM is this for?

Theatrical Banger: "Agony" from Into the Woods

This is my favorite Sondheim song because it’s a pissing match between wannabe alpha bros
