Fresh Friday - November 4, 2022

Howdy and welcome! Happiest of Fridays to you and yours, friend.

I wanted to take a serious pause here and commemorate the importance of Takeoff to rap's culture. He has always been my favorite of the Migos, and his flow, delivery, and ad-libs have changed the course of hip-hop's direction since the group rose to fame. Takeoff was one of a kind, and it is an unbelievable shame that the world lost him so early.

Fact of the week: Takeoff was Quavo's nephew, and Offset's first cousin once removed. This group was a family, and its unimaginable what they're going through at this moment.

Let's check out some new music.

Albums/EPs

Drake & 21 Savage - Her Loss:

Drake, for me, has ruined what would've been a fun and surprisingly entertaining album (and album rollout) with his decision to diss Megan Thee Stallion. I'm talking about the line in "Circo Loco" clearly aimed at her. This asshole dropped "Nice For What", keeps claiming he is women's best friend, then acts like an incel any chance he gets. No, fuck him, respect Black women. Stream some Megan this weekend.

No, I'm not done yet -- don't present this album as a collaboration album, then sprinkle in a dusting of 21 Savage... this is a Drake album with 21 saying a few words. Stop playing.

Now I'm done.

Phoenix - Alpha Zulu:

I don't love Phoenix as much as I used to, but I enjoyed this album!

First Aid Kit - Palomino:

I am pleasantly surprised by this, y'all.

Boldy James - MrTen08:

Boldy has consistently dropped 3 albums each year over the past three years, and all of them good. That's a feat in and of itself.

Joji - SMITHEREENS:

Another case of "I don't know this guy, don't enjoy his music", but he's popular so here you go.

SAULT - Untitled (God); AIIR; Earth; 11; Today & Tomorrow:

The enigmatic British band is back, and they've got five (!) albums available for free download (!) until tomorrow, November 5th. They are great. You can find the download here, just have to guess the password (hint: the password can be found in our Patreon membership).

Singles/Music Videos

BROCKHAMPTON - "big pussy":

This sounds like just a song by Kevin Abstract, Brock forgot the Hamptons! Dunno what to make of the lack of the band...

Selena Gomez - "My Mind & Me":

Didn't know that Selena was dropping a documentary this week, but I've heard good things, and this song is nice.

MIKE - "What Do I Do?":

It's biiiiiiiiig... fucking MIKE!

Misc. (Deluxes, Remixes, etc.)

JID - The Forever Story (Expanded Edition):

Quick story, JID wanted his song "2007" to close out this album, but couldn't clear the original "HiiPower" sample. It never got cleared, but he wanted to make sure it made its way onto streaming services. So, here you go.

Holidays!

Introducing a new section -- this is the season of too many Holiday albums and singles, so I'll quickly list them for you.

Camila Cabello - "I'll Be Home For Christmas":

Hailey Whitters - "New Baby For Christmas":

Future Islands - "Last Christmas":

Bishop Briggs - "Cheer":
