Hark! Let us rejoice, for Rihanna hath returned!

Fun music fact of the week: Rihanna almost served in the Barbados military, as she was a cadet in a pre-army program. Barbados, her home country, also has a Rihanna Day! You can now mark your calendars for February 22nd every year to celebrate, you're welcome.

New Rihanna (and some not-Rihanna) below!

Singles/Music Videos

Rihanna - "Lift Me Up":

I cried during the first listen, I can't even lie to y'all. Wow, Rihanna Day came early this year!

SZA - "Shirt":

SZA's (and I guess TDE as a whole, because Isaiah Rashad did this too) need to tease new songs at the end of music videos is getting tedious, mostly because we don't get the songs for months to years at a time. "Hit Different" teased "Good Days" which teased "Shirt"... which is now teasing "Blind". This isn't the Marvel Cinematic Universe, SZA, we don't need post-credits scenes.

That being said, this is a banger, and the video features Lakeith Stanfield, who I absolutely adore.

Ashanti - "Falling For You":

Some acts need to stay unofficially retired... Ashanti is not one of them. More, please.

Keith Urban - "Street Called Main":

We probably don't cover enough country music here, but damn there is slim pickings for good country music these days. Keith is always reliable, so here you go, country music! (This song is actually good, too).

Killer Mike - "TALK'N THAT SHIT!":

This man is so full of shit with his fake-woke "Kill Your Masters" attitude, just to turn around and be a capitalist who whines when Black protests threaten his place of business. Boo-hoo, crybaby, go fuck yourself. I miss when you actually stood for something.

Unknown Mortal Orchestra - "I Killed Captain Cook":

Supposedly, UMO has a new double album coming soon. I have thoroughly replayed their latest album and enjoyed it, so I am excited for what's to come.

Ice Spice - "Bikini Bottom":

I have no clue how Ice Spice came to fame, I assume TikTok, but all of a sudden every song I heard was saying "munch" and so here we are. I don't think she's a bad act at all, but it's kinda repetitive. Someone said this instrumental sounds like the chaotic-ass music from SpongeBob, and I imagine Mrs. Spice saw this tweet and named the song accordingly.

Albums/EPs

Smino - Luv 4 Rent:

The long-awaited third album from such a unique talent. Smino and JID are going on tour this coming year, get your tickets now for what promises to be a stellar show.

Also, we didn't get new Frank today, but "No L's" has a great Frank sample on it.

Fred again... - Actual Life 3 (January 1 - September 9 2022):

Fred here is on a fantastic roll, and this album is another great installation in his Actual Life series, don't miss it!

Westside Gunn - 10:

If you are wondering what the album title really means, hold onto your shorts:

"10" references that this album is the tenth installment in a series entitled "Hitler Wears Hermes" (supposed to be like the Devil Wears Prada, but you know, Hitler). So why not include that in the title like every other installment in the series? Well, I think Mr. Gunn saw some people are angry because antisemitic language should, you know, be punished, and was afraid he might receive some backlash. If you're worried about that, maybe, and this is just me spit-balling, DON'T NAME SOMETHING AFTER HITLER???

Album slap, tho.

Your Old Droog - The Yodfather:

I've got a great Top 20 Tuesday in the works, just looking at all of the music YOD here has dropped this year. It's a lot!

Misc. (Deluxes, Remixes, etc.)

The Beatles - Revolver (Super Deluxe):

The next Beatles album to get the "super deluxe" remastered treatment, and also my favorite (well, it's tough between this and Rubber Soul). Some neat stuff in here.

Baby Keem - the melodic blue (deluxe):

Almost a year later, Mr. Baby decides to give us a deluxe of a great album. No new Kendrick, alas.

Freddie Gibbs - $$$ ($pecial Edition):

I got really excited when rumors circled about this deluxe, I thought we might get some new music... but no. Oh well, great album!

Redveil - "pg baby remix (ft. Denzel Curry)":

I feel like I've talked nothing but rap music today, but this one is hard to miss -- familiarize yourself with Redveil, he is going places.

As Chris Stapleton once asked, "what are you listening to? Is it a country band? Is it Rihanna?" It's Rihanna, isn't it. Let us know in the comments below!
