Fresh Friday - September 2nd, 2022

It's a 3-day weekend for most of us, and this exhausted writer is ready to not move for at least two of those days. Here's a list of new music we think you should check out and avoid over this holiday weekend:

Arctic Monkeys - "There'd Better Be A Mirrorball":

Here is the song I expected last week, but damn was it worth the wait. I love that the band said "we don't want radio play or women to scream at our concerts anymore -- we want to make the music we want to make."

Gorillaz - "New Gold (feat. Tame Impala & Bootie Brown)":

Keeping with the primate theme, the Gorillaz have promised new album Cracker Island out soon, here is their second single from the forthcoming project. I typically do not like the Gorillaz. I think Damon Albarn has been a scummy person since Blur, and there's plenty to back that up. However, this is a good song because it's like 90% Tame Impala.

Kenny Beats - LOUIE:

One of the best young hip-hop producers in the game just made the best beat tape you'll hear all year. Don't sleep.

Kali Uchis - "NO HAY LEY":

If we get a Kali Uchis album before the end of the year I'm going to poop myself!

Freddie Gibbs - "Too Much (feat. Moneybagg Yo)":

It's finally happening! Gibbs' long awaited SSS (aka Soul Sold Separately) is out September 30th and this is apparently the first single?? Surprised at least "Ice Cream" or "Black Illuminati" isn't making the album. Oh well. Now we know why Gibbs kicked off the Benny beef.

Kendrick Lamar - "We Cry Together" short film:

Aaron already covered this in our Roundup, but good god this is amazing. Kendrick has the best visuals of any artist, hands down.

Ari Lennox - Away Message:

Ahead of her new album (out next week!), Ari has shared a handful of songs that didn't make the album. And holy cow is "Tatted" a vibe.

Van Buren Records - "FOUL":

If you're in the mood for up-and-coming hip-hop, look no further. These guys have a lot of potential and the talent to back up their shit talking.
