Friday, again?? That's gotta mean more music! Check out what fresh music we're listening to and not listening to today:
Post Malone - Twelve Carat Toothache:
It wouldn't be a jam-packed year and summer for music if Post Malone didn't give us a couple singles that will dominate the radio for the foreseeable future. I think that song with Doja Cat is gonna be a big hit.
Maggie Rogers - "Want Want":
I think this is the album I'm most excited for this summer, and I certainly wasn't expecting Maggie to embrace such a rock-infused sound on this second single.
Arin Ray - Hello Poison:
There's been some awesome R&B releases as of late, and you definitely don't want to miss what Arin Ray has given us this week.
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - "Spitting Off the Edge of the World (feat. Perfume Genius)":
It's been nine years since Yeah Yeah Yeahs have given us new music, and if this lead single is anything to go off of, it was worth the wait.
Swae Lee & Diplo - "Tupelo Shuffle":
I thought I was upset when Doja Cat released the lead single from the accompanying soundtrack to Baz Luhrmann's ELVIS movie, but then I heard this. There's no escaping it; I am going to write an article about how much I already hate this movie and soundtrack.
Muse - "Will of the People":
Their third and titular single leading up to the release of their album on August 26th, Muse has been trying to revisit their roots this year. The first single "Won't Stand Down" is incredible, and "Will of the People" has good moments. Anything has got to be better than Simulation Theory from 2018.
Phoenix - "Alpha Zulu":
It feels like ever since Phoenix gave us the incredible Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix in 2009 (!), they've been on a steady decline in quality. Bankrupt! was alright, Ti Amo was not, and whatever this trash above is, is really bad. Listen at your own discretion.
Will Butler - "A Stranger's Home/Nearer to Thee":
As the press cycle for Arcade Fire's latest and nice return-to-form installment WE, the group announced that brother of frontman Win Butler and founding member, Will Butler, was no longer associated with the group. He left on good terms to pursue a solo career, but these songs are incredibly boring.
Merlyn Wood - "GREEN LIGHT":
Speaking of pseudo-breakups, Merlyn Wood of BROCKHAMPTON fame has released his first post-BH music. It's a funny track, lots of talk about ass, which is what you expect from the class clown of the group. Despite Kevin Abstract's promise that everyone was on good terms, there's been no cross-promotion of each other's music since their departure. Are they on good terms? Will we actually get that last album this year? Who knows.
