Friday Roundup (of News & Thoughts & Such) - April 29th

Welcome to the Friday Roundup (of News and Thoughts and Such) which, at some number of consecutive weeks, is channel.WAV’s longest running and most prestigious column. News. Is there any? Let’s find out. There’s not much. I just did one of these literally 3 days ago. So why don’t you just get off my back, okay?

1. Tour news:

Maroon 5, Nine Inch Nails, and the B52s all announced tour dates this week, in a huge coup for those of us who exclusively listen to number-based bands. Notably, it has been announced that the B52s’ tour will be their last. Lil Nas X, also touring starting in September. X is a number in Roman numerals. It all fits if you people would just wake up.

2. Hey, more lawsuits:

Very complicated, very boring lawsuits, as Cher is in the midst of a battle for the ages with Mary Bono, widow of Sonny Bono, Cher’s former husband and Sonny & Cher bandmate. Basically the same as the Brian Wilson lawsuit we talked about a couple of weeks ago, but with the added wrinkle of whether royalty rights fall under copyright law! Fun!

3. Release dates!

Wilco announced a new album, Cruel Country, which is set to mark their return to the “country” genre, after largely abandoning it following the mammoth success of Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. This makes me a happy boi. Post Malone also has an album, Twelve Carat Toothache, due out June 3.

What’s channel.WAV listening to this week?

Ritter: I already ranted about Pusha T’s latest and greatest, I’ll take this time to plug Fontaine D.C.‘s Skinty Fia which also dropped last week. Go cry and headbang at the same time

Botts: Am I in a sad cowboy phase? Maybe. Here’s a cool song by Travis Meadows (Insert “Sideways”)

Slone: While the “correct” answer is the audiobook version of John Steinbeck’s beloved classic East of Eden, I think I’m supposed to be talking about music. To that end, might I recommend Ruston Kelly’s 2019 classic Dirt Emo Vol. 1?
