Top 20 Tuesday: Albums to Come in 2022

We're well into the new year but that isn't stopping our excitement for all that 2022 has to offer us in terms of music. We've had some incredible releases so far (check out our "What is channel.WAV listening to?" feature in our Friday Roundups for my favorites), but the best is yet to come!

So, to keep our faithful readers apprised of all the great upcoming releases that they may or may not have known about, I've composed a list of all that I'm looking forward to -- some that I may be a little too hopeful about, too. Without further ado, welcome back to Top 20 Tuesday!

1. Rosalía - Motomami:

March 18th, 2022.

Hot off the heels of her Saturday Night Live debut, Rosalía is releasing her latest album, Motomami, featuring the incredible singles "LA FAMA", "SAOKO", and "CHICKEN TERIYAKI". This Friday!

2. Hailey Whitters - Raised:

March 18th, 2022.

In 2020, Whitters gave us The Dream, a reminder of how good pop-country could be if stars like her ruled the airwaves. Raised is poised to be just as good, and, god, I just love her voice. Also this Friday!

3. Nigo - I Know Nigo:

March 25th, 2022.

Nigo is a fashion designer, yes, but he's also got an ear for music. Or maybe he's got good connections? Who knows. All I care is that this album features new music from Pusha T (see below), Tyler, the Creator, and A$AP Rocky to name a few.

4. Buddy - Superghetto:

March 25th, 2022.

Buddy's first album Harlan & Alondra was one of my absolute favorite albums of the very distant 2018. But we have waited extremely patiently for the follow up, and here's hoping it's just as great.

5. AND 6. Jack White - Fear of the Dawn AND Entering Heaven Alive:

April 8th, 2022, and July 22nd, 2022, respectively.

I'll be honest, Lazaretto really bored the piss out of me except for the title song, but each single White has given us for the new album has been face-melting and astounding. I'll give it a shot!

7. Omar Apollo - Ivory:

April 8th, 2022.

The Latinx crooner is giving us his most notable and most personal work yet -- "Killing Me" has been on repeat lately.

8. Father John Misty - Chloë & the 21st Century:

April 8th, 2022.

"Funny Girl" was a sonic shift for Father John Misty, especially as a lead single, but the melancholy couldn't be more affectionate, and I think that's a good sign for Chloë.

9. Fivio Foreign - B.I.B.L.E.:

April 8th, 2022.

Fivio has been stirring up a lot of notoriety following his 2021 guest appearance on Donda, and his latest single "City of Gods" with Alicia Keys and you-know-who gives us a great preview for his creative vision on B.I.B.L.E.

10. Fontaines D.C. - Skinty Fia:

April 22nd, 2022.

What does the name of the album mean? I have no clue, and I'm too lazy to google it. All I know is that "Jackie Down the Line" is mean, and cruel, and I love it.

11. Kate Bollinger - Look at it in the Light:

April 22, 2022.

Kate is a best kept secret, and her new EP promises to expand on a great foundation from her first two releases.

12. The Black Keys - Dropout Boogie:

May 13th, 2022.

Last year the Keys gave us Delta Kream, and I thought that would be all we heard from them for a bit. Seems not. While "Wild Child" abandons the blues for a more pop-laced sound, it's pretty good for these late-career rockers.

13. Flume - Palaces

May 20th, 2022.

Thinking back to Flume's Skin feels like a fever dream. Who knows if Palaces will contain the star power of its predecessor, but Flume rarely disappoints.

14. UMI - Forest in the City:

May, 2022.

Another lowkey artist intent on making huge waves, UMI has released a single "Sorry" with the promise of an album soon enough. She's a great listen if you're missing SZA.

15. The Arcade Fire - TBD:

Release date, TBA.

It's been a while since the Arcade Fire have hung around alternative radio stations, and their last album was anything but great. With the announcement of two singles this week, a new release can surely be on the horizon.

16. Denzel Curry - Melt My Eyez, See Your Future:

Release date TBA.

Denzel won't give us a release date, but the trailer and first two singles for the album indicate it'll be his best work yet.

17. JID - The Forever Story:

Release date TBA.

J. Cole's right-hand-man has been teasing this album for YEARS now (just two, actually), and we're sick of waiting. Actually, he can do what he wants as long as he keeps rapping his ass off on every feature he hands out.

18. Pusha T - TBD

Release date TBA, hinted at in April/May 2022.

Will he diss Drake again? Will he talk about anything but selling coke? I don't care, I just want to hear the damn thing.

19. Freddie Gibbs - SSS

Release date TBA, supposedly May/June 2022.

Dear Mr. Fredrick Tipton, please give me your album sooner than May. Sincerely, a very tired man.

20. Kendrick Lamar - TBD:

Let's all be real, if he didn't ride the extremely high wave of hype from the Super Bowl Half Time show into an album rollout, this shit is never going to see the light of day. I've abandoned all hope. It's time to pack it up, y'all.......

Nah, just kidding. AOTY coming when Kung Fu Kenny feels like it.
