Friday Roundup (of News and Thoughts and Such) - February 25th Edition

Diane, 7:30 AM, February 24th. Putting together the Friday Roundup (of News and Thoughts and Such) which, at four consecutive weeks, is channel.WAV’s longest running and most prestigious column. Never seen so many trees in my life… Lunch was $6.31 at the Lamplighter Inn. That's on Highway Two near Lewis Fork. That was a tuna fish sandwich on whole wheat, a slice of cherry pie and a cup of coffee. Damn good food. Diane, if you ever get up this way, that cherry pie is worth a stop.

1. Ye does not release Donda 2

As anticipated, February 22, came and went. The album was not made available. The listening party was a disaster. Dane’s tires were slashed under mysterious circumstances. Kim Kardashian has had enough. Pete Davidson returned to Instagram just long enough to do some light trolling. I just wish this dude would leave the public eye and get his life right.

Update: 16 songs have now been uploaded to Ye’s Stem Player.

2. Britney Spears threatens to “sue the shit out of” former management group

Spears claimed in a now-deleted Instagram post that her former managers “tried to kill her.” TriStar, the management firm in question, has denied the accusation. Details on what exactly is being alleged are scant at this time, so this gets thrown into the category of “watch this space” for now.

3. Mark Lanegan passes away

Mark Lanegan, certified legend of the ‘90s alternative scene, died on February 22. No cause of death has been made public. Aside from his work as leader of Screaming Trees, Lanegan collaborated with a veritable who’s who of rock music over the years, including Kurt Cobain, Layne Staley, Queens of the Stone Age, and many more. Lanegan was 57.

4. MGK to be playable character in WWE 2K23

In my first of many excuses I will ultimately make to use this blog to talk about my life’s true passion (professional wrestling), it was announced earlier this week that Machine Gun Kelly will, aside from curating the soundtrack to the latest entry in WWE’s increasingly abysmal video game series, also be a playable character in the game. This is not an unprecedented move: Limp Bizkit’s Fred Durst was previously featured as an unlockable character in 2001’s WWF Smackdown!: Just Bring It. Yeah.

5. Four stories is sufficient. Elden Ring just dropped. I also cut the ever-loving shit out of 2 of my fingers, like a couple of Dane’s tires, so I’m typing with 1 hand.

What’s channel.WAV listening to this week?

Slone: Music from The Adventures of Pete & Pete is not just the soundtrack to a largely forgotten Nickelodeon show. It’s also one of my favorite albums of the 90s and will likely get a write-up very soon.

Ritter: Cycling between Texas Moon by Leon Bridges and Khurangbin, and the Alchemist and Curren$y’s latest collab album, Continuance, this week. Lovely production on both.

Botts: Did you know Coldplay did a cover of Kid Cudi's “Day ‘n’ Nite”? Surprisingly, it’s not bad… Otherwise, who else remembers Young the Giant’s first album? Give it a listen for some moody sad boi bangers?

Did I miss any stories this week? Did you think the intro was fun? Do you like wrestling? What do you think of Stone Cold Steve Austin’s likely impending comeback or the free-agency of Cody Rhodes? Let me know in the comments, or else I can’t guarantee the safety of Dane’s tires.

  1. MGK as a player in WWE is almost as bad as the atrocities you can build in the WWE character creator
