It started out with a kiss, how did the playlist end up like this?
Congratulations, Dane and Lindsey! A wonderful ceremony, reception, and evening. We wish nothing but the world for your all’s love.
However, the missing component to the night’s evening was a wonderful playlist and a fun DJ. I don’t blame Dane here, rather that the playlist was altered and the DJ could not read a room. The following are a couple of highlights that made the music scene reminiscent of a Donda-esque spectacle.
The happy couple |
1. The DJ altered the playlist too many damn times. Dane had some beats. The DJ had to have known, yet cut out the best features of the night. What was left was a mere 15-year-old thinking you could line up Dr. Dre next to Walk the Moon.
2. Hype Man? More like Psych Man. Who cuts a lit "Cha-Cha Slide" halfway through the song and then comes out over the intercom and says, “Oh no, the song skipped itself…” It’s just a tad askew that this is the only song it happened to. With 30 people out on the dance floor…
3. “Be sure to bring back the glow-up sticks.” Anyone else hear this? No? Just me? Inconceivable… This is like someone making it rain only to say, “be sure to bring me back those fat stacks, rent ain’t cheap.” Let the kids have fun, man.
4. A power outage left the dance floor in darkness, followed by a raucous ovation for Rihanna’s “Don’t Stop the Music”; I’m not saying the DJ intentionally sabotaged the electricity to get a crowd reaction, but I’m also not not saying that.
5. Maroon 5’s “Sugar”, followed by The Archies’ “Sugar, Sugar. ” Two sweet songs in a row, yet no sign of BROCKHAMPTON’s “SUGAR.” Or Harry Styles’ “Watermelon Sugar.” Or Def Leppard’s “Pour Some Sugar on Me.” Or The Rolling Stones’ “Brown Su—…” (actually let’s leave that one off)… might say this left a “sour taste in my mouth,” or that ever since I’ve been a bit “bitter.” I might say either of those things… and then you’d probably never speak to me again. And you’d be right to do so.
6. Uptown Funk played… and I hate that song.
For those curious, here is the original playlist in its unaltered state -- enjoy the glory that is "Party in the USA" followed up by Usher's "Yeah". A mash-up that is all but inevitable in the future.
In all seriousness, however, a wonderful time was had by all. I got to hear Miles Davis AND I got to hear light piano covers of Frank Ocean songs, so at the end of the day, I’ll call it a win. Congratulations again to the newlyweds!
